Guys and Gals,

I'm looking for some help. The paid in beer and good times kind of help.

I'm working on a build for the the "$2012 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge". For those of you who may have not heard of it, it is an event where participants are tasked with buying/building a car for no more than $2012. This car will then compete in 3 competitions: autocross, drag race, and concours. Highest combined score wins, with many other prizes along the way. You can read about it here:

http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/events/2012challenge/

The event is coming up in 5-ish months, and my team has actually got a bit smaller... my dad is attempting to relocated from California, but it is taking longer than expected. Another member took a new job and moved several hours away. So right now it is just me and 1 other guy working on it. The other guy is building the engine, but that is basically the limit of what he is going to do... the rest is on me, and I'm not making enough progress on my own.

This is a really cool project car, and when finished you'll see it a lot at the local events. You can read about it here:

Team website: http://www.alsoranracing.com/

Car reveal: http://www.alsoranracing.com/?p=225

The Plan: http://www.alsoranracing.com/?p=254

Engine: http://www.alsoranracing.com/?p=295

If you are highly skilled, I could use your help. If you know nothing, but want to get your hands dirty and learn, I could use your help. Basically, I'm not picky, just looking for people that love cars and want to help us succeed.

Did I mention it is a Lotus?

All of my contact info is on the website, or you can PM me here.

Thanks,
Brad

Ok, 97 olds aurora w/ 4.0 v8. I have replaced the alternator twice (1st was a bad part), and still no charge. The battery light comes on when the voltage drops below 11v. There is also a thermistor that increases alternator voltage when needed from lots of accesories running. I believe the thermistor is good but think the problem is in the connector (or to the connector). Any info is helpful.

First off Wiregrass is a huge lot and it is concrete which is the main reason I went to see how the car ran on concrete in preparation for Blytheville. The event itself was rather small with only 38 people running. Even so with 4 and a half stations we weren't short on corner workers. The course was a tight fast course with a few spots that were easily overdrivable. Two 360's and two TIGHT 180's. The first 360 came outta nowhere because of the speed you were carrying, and the first tight 180* was little more than a sadistic attempt at destroying your tires. The better part of the morning was spent dialing in the car. Midday we had rain, and I mean RAIN, the tails coming off the cars were higher than the cars themselves. Our last run in the morning consisted of hydroplaning the course as referenced by the large drop in times. In the afternoon we picked up the pace, with Evan's help we ended up increasing the pressures in both the front and rear and increasing the front dampening. The car really responded well when we up the front dampening allowing us to get on the throttle much earlier in the corner. (A necessity in this thing) I ended up 10th RAW and 2nd PAX, Wess Hughson killed it in a STR S2000, enough to edge me out of PAX by .2, Raw I don't even wanna talk about it. Evan unfortunately didn't manage a clean run.

2 Main things I took away from this event:

1. Concrete is supposed to be much stickier than asphalt, since I am still dialing in my car, I guess, it didn't seem that way.

2. Concrete will chew your tires, lets just say it's time to rotate.

Overall the Wiregrass crew were very welcoming, and there are more than a few really fast guys out there. I had a blast, and am very exhausted

Here's how we ended up

1Tm 32 Ervin Carder 2011 Mazda 2 Green 62.647+DNF 62.049 62.592+1 68.153+1 61.154 60.911 59.791+1 59.603 59.603 -

Story on the Sparcos...an expensive lesson in paying attention to offset :) They are literally brand new but don't fit our Mini. RS3s are THE high performance street tire for our hot summers. I ran a set with two drivers for the entire 2011 Solo season and they still have several events left in them. Even with two drivers they never needed to be sprayed. Great tires!

I can deliver them to the May 20th autocross.
Best way to contact me is via the email links in the craigslist ads. I cannot access the forum often during the day.
