ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinic - May 4, 2024

“Killing Cones To Make Safer Drivers”

Thank you for your interest in the ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinics. You have taken a major step towards eliminating the number one cause of death among young adults - automobile wrecks. The goal of our Teen Driver Clinics is to arm your child with the basic skills they need to control an automobile in panic and accident avoidance situations. Skills they need to survive

Class size is limited so that the amount of time actually spent driving can be maximized. And that's just what they do - DRIVE! It’s the only effective way to learn Car Control!

Students must have either a learner's permit or a driver's license. Please be aware than an adult must accompany each student throughout the Clinic. Our most common feedback from parents is that they learn as much as their teen.

This Clinic will be at Gardendale First Baptist Church, located at 940 Main Street, Gardendale, AL, 35071. Note this is the church's South Campus, NOT the newer North Campus which is located directly on I-65.

PLEASE NOTE: changes are not expected, but clinic locations/dates could change based on site availability. We send a confirmation email with important information 7-10 days prior to the clinic date.

Students should be onsite by 8:30am to complete waivers and a brief vehicle inspection. The clinic will begin promptly at 9:00am or as soon as all students have registered on-site. Our goal is to be complete by 4:00pm, but this is dependent on class size and location.

The fee for a clinic is $125. There will be a short break for lunch. Please note that two lunches are included in the price of the Clinic. We have found that supplying lunch reduces our down time and helps complete the clinic in a timely fashion. Additional lunches can be ordered for $10.00 each. If you require additional lunches, please indicate the number on the registration form. While it is not practical to take custom lunch orders for each attendee, please let us know if you have specific dietary requirements and we will attempt to make suitable arrangements.

This registration is for one student only. If you have more that one student please complete additional registration entries. Please note an adult/guardian is required to ride along with each student throughout the exercises. Please email if you have questions.

Note all communication regarding the clinic will be via email, so please register using an email address that is actively monitored.

Because we have certain fixed costs, like insurance for the property owner, late cancellations or no shows may be charged a portion of the entry fee. So if you are unsure you can make a clinic date, please don’t select it. This also gives an opportunity to someone else who can attend on that date.

If you have any questions, please email teen.driver@alscca.net.

Please ensure that the vehicle you bring to the clinic is in sound mechanical condition. Our exercises will not damage a vehicle in proper working condition, but if you are experiencing any problems with your vehicle it should be repaired prior to attending the clinic. Please email teen.driver@alscca.net if you have any questions concerning vehicle condition.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot allow any vehicles with lifted or "leveled" suspensions. Lift kits and leveling kits increase the risk of rollovers and decrease vehicle stability in emergency conditions. Additionally some narrow yet tall SUVs are not appropriate for the driving exercises due to rollover risk. Most vehicles will be fine, and we have trucks, SUVs, and minivans in practically every clinic, but please email teen.driver@alscca.net in advance if you have any question about your vehicle.

Trek Out of Winter Road Rally

Trek Out of Winter Road Rally

Trek Out of Winter Road Rally

Please join us for the first ALSCCA Road Rally event of the season. This event will follow the SCCA Trek format, with two options for participants. First, if you just want to come with the group and enjoy a nice Saturday drive, we will provide basic maps and offer a lead-follow experience to the stops. If, however, you are interested in learning and preparing for one of our upcoming full competitive TSD rallies, we will offer a set of route instructions and login to the Richta app. This will allow the second group an opportunity to learn how SCCA rally events work, how to read route instructions, how checkpoints and scoring works, and how to use the GPS rally apps. There will be no official scoring or awards on this drive, just an opportunity to learn and prepare for upcoming competitive events.

The Trek will begin at Durbin Farms Market in Clanton, Alabama at 9:30 am, Saturday March 9th , 2024. Waivers, along with basic training and instructions will be provided at 9:30 am – don’t be late! First car out at 10:30 am. The first part of the drive will conclude at the Kowaliga Restaurant on Lake Martin for lunch. Length of drive: 49 miles, 1.25 hour.

Our lunch stop will be the Kowaliga Restaurant on Lake Martin.

The Trek will continue after lunch to The Wellborn Musclecar Museum in nearby Alexander City, Alabama. The museum will provide our SCCA group with a private tour, viewing a fantastic collection of 70’s Mopars, with a discounted entrance fee of approximately $10/person. The event will conclude at the end of the museum visit, everyone departing on your own route home.

The number of cars participating will be limited to 25 total, minimum of one driver and one navigator per car, other riders welcome. If your navigator or riders are minors, a special release is required.

Registration fee: SCCA members $20/car. Non-members $35 (includes $15 fee for SCCA weekend membership)

No special equipment is required. A smartphone with built-in GPS and a windshield mount is strongly recommended, allowing you to download and use the free Richta Competitor app (Apple App Store or Google Play Store). It is recommended that you download this app before arriving. Further instructions on app use will be provided prior to the rally start. A clipboard, pen or pencil for note-taking, and a basic stop-watch may be useful. Full rally timing equipment and apps are allowed, as there are no competitive classes in this Trek event.

Event Schedule

9:30 am – Waivers and training/instructions outside under the pavilion at Durbin Farms Market, Clanton, AL

10:30 am – First car out

10:50 am – Last sweep car out

12:00 noon – Arrive at The Kowaliga Restaurant, Lake Martin for lunch

1:15 pm – Depart The Kowaliga Restaurant, driving to The Wellborn Musclecar Museum in Alexander City, AL

2:30 pm – Depart The Musclecar Museum, choose your own route home

Event Requirements

You must register in advance. No walk up registrations will be processed.

Minor waivers (under 19 in Alabama) must be completed before the event, see SCCA.com for instructions. The process takes several days, doesn't have a cost and is valid for a year.

During registration, you will be asked to choose between driving in a lead/follow convoy of cars - the usual configuration of a Trek or using a set of Route Instructions and practicing some basic Rally skills. You can change your mind up until the close of registration as we need to prepare different types of materials for each group.

A Rally School video is avalable on the alscca.net website in the Road Rally section.

  • Entrants will be responsible for reimbursing Barber for repairing any damage for off-course run or otherwise.

  • Any tire off course during a run, no matter how minor, will result in a DNF for that run

ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinic - October 21, 2023

“Killing Cones To Make Safer Drivers”

Thank you for your interest in the ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinics. You have taken a major step towards eliminating the number one cause of death among young adults - automobile wrecks. The goal of our Teen Driver Clinics is to arm your child with the basic skills they need to control an automobile in panic and accident avoidance situations. Skills they need to survive

Please complete your registration as quickly as possible since seats are filled first come, first served - and they do fill up quickly.

ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinic - April 1, 2023

“Killing Cones To Make Safer Drivers”

Thank you for your interest in the ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinics. You have taken a major step towards eliminating the number one cause of death among young adults - automobile wrecks. The goal of our Teen Driver Clinics is to arm your child with the basic skills they need to control an automobile in panic and accident avoidance situations. Skills they need to survive

Please complete your registration as quickly as possible since seats are filled first come, first served - and they do fill up quickly.

Certain vehicles with a high center of gravity, such as lifted four wheel drive trucks and some narrow yet tall SUVs, are not appropriate for the driving exercises due to rollover risk. Most vehicles will be fine, and we have trucks, SUVs, and minivans in practically every clinic, but please email teen.driver@alscca.net in advance if you have any question about your vehicle.

ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinic - March 18

“Killing Cones To Make Safer Drivers”

Thank you for your interest in the ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinics. You have taken a major step towards eliminating the number one cause of death among young adults - automobile wrecks. The goal of our Teen Driver Clinics is to arm your child with the basic skills they need to control an automobile in panic and accident avoidance situations. Skills they need to survive

Please complete your registration as quickly as possible since seats are filled first come, first served - and they do fill up quickly.

Our exercises will not damage a vehicle in proper working condition, but if you are experiencing any problems with your vehicle it should be repaired prior to attending the clinic. Please email teen.driver@alscca.net if you have any questions concerning vehicle condition.

You will need a free Motorsportsreg.com account to complete this registration.

ALSCCA Season Social

Join us on Saturday, January 28 at 9:30 a.m. for the annual ALSCCA Season-Ending Social at Autobahn Indoor Speedway in Bessemer, Alabama.

We will be handing out AWESOME trophies to all of the trophy winners from the 2022 Solo Season, and racing some karts to hopefully knock off some of that off-season rust!

Participation in karting will cost $80 per driver, and this provides 3 private races with fellow club members.

We will also be renting out the conference room for this event. We will take some time to discuss club ambitions for 2023, and potential changes to the next Solo Season.

You're welcome to bring guests! If you wanna just come hang out, or meet some of our club members, you're more than welcome!

IF YOU PLAN TO PARTICIPATE IN DRIVING KARTS AT THIS EVENT, PLEASE REGISTER!

If you have some folks planning on racing karts with you, but they don't have an MSR account, just email the registrar, so we can plan accordingly with the facility with a close head count.

Use of your own personal helmet is permitted so long as it is DOT approved, or SNELL approved. It is encouraged to bring your SNELL helmet you usually use at SCCA events, if you plan to race, but do not own a helmet, the facility has helmets, and the club can also provide loaner helmets upon requests. (Please email registrar in advance if you think you will want to borrow an ALSCCA helmet.)

ALSCCA Club Race and Time Trials - August 27-28, 2022

ALSCCA Club Race and Time Trials

Barber Motorsports Park

Join us August 27-28, 2022 for one of the highlights of the Alabama Region’s racing calendar, the annual Club Race and Time Trials. Hosted at the world-class Barber Motorsports Park, the club race offers enthusiast drivers the opportunity to test their skills on a pristine track with professional facilities. The weekend of racing offers plenty of exciting track action for the entire family.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

NOTE: To volunteer for any position at this event, please contact Alabama Region Executive, Jim Farris, with an email to re@alscca.net.

BE A CORNER MARSHAL

Barber has 17 turns requiring a minimum of 34 Marshals. For every position we are short, we must hire non-SCCA contractors. This job can be both fun and challenging. Click below to hear what one experienced corner marshal has to say.

“THE 2nd BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE”

For those of you who have never done this, we are offering free Zoom training on Sunday, August 14 at 4:00 p.m. CDT. (An invitation to the training will be sent to you after you sign up.) The training session will be recorded and available to view later. Every new corner marshal will be placed with someone who has experience in the position.

Our other areas of need are in Pit and Grid; Timing and Scoring, and Race Administration. Jobs in these areas include aligning cars in proper position for the race, recording sequential car numbers during the races, moving box lunches and drinks to the proper area, buying ice at Buc-ees, passing out water bottles in post-race impound and other various duties as assigned by the race directors.

STEPS TO VOLUNTEER

To volunteer for any position, go onto Motorsportsreg.com (you will need to establish a free account) and register. The volunteer positions are at the bottom of the list of race groups.

Anyone ages 16-18 working will need both an SCCA and Barber Motorsports Park minor waiver. The SCCA waiver requires both parents’ signatures unless one has sole custody. Parents and the minor must establish SCCA profiles, but do not need to be members. The Barber waiver requires only one parental signature. Neither of these can be done at the last minute, expect the SCCA waiver to take a week to complete.

VOLUNTEER BENEFITS

Aside from helping us put on a first-class event, working with like-minded enthusiasts, all volunteers will receive lunch and a $50 stipend.
